Really just any compression scheme.  I think the Q is a historical nod 
to BLU.

Note that a file with a BSC extension should not be compressed (i.e. if 
it is compressed, the BSQ extension should be used instead).

Not compressed.

In my experience, DDD.  This is also the format used by ProTERM when 
sending disk images.

But do we have any MIME types registered for these yet?  I'd like to 
know what MIME types a web server serving these files should employ to 
ensure they get transferred and saved properly (possibly handed off to 
an appropriate helper application for extraction).

Provided that the downloading client either knows the required transfer 
types for those files, or allows you to specify the transfer mode.  
Which is why getting registered MIME types for our archives (and getting 
sites to include the extensions for all files -- the METAL/Future Vision 
FTP site failed to ensure this) is important.
