This is definitely the way to go. Tracking down the owner and getting
things reclassified is best if it can be done. Yes, I do see upgrading
to the last version if you originally owned the product.
One note: You cannot control others. It is futile to try and change
peoples minds on subjects that they feel very strongly about. You can
raise suppositions and debate, but in the end people will believe what
they want to believe. So, in a way this discussion is merely an
exercise with no real benefits other than allowing people to say what
they believe to be true. This is truly a pasttime for many to talk
about the extent to which copyright laws reach and maybe their miss
applications. I can not pass judgement on what others have done lest I
be judged with equal vigor. But one law I will never break: If someone
has something of value and wishes to retain ownership, no matter how
miserly they may seem, I will respect that ownership, lest I have
something of value.
Wow, for a minute there I sounded like I knew what I was talking about.
NOT!
I try not to take myself too seriously, being a father has taught me
that. There should always be time for play.
