  The SAT is a college admissions exam, and has nothing to do with
graduating High School. There's also a competing exam called the ACT that
tests subjects taught in school. 
  While some states have graduation exams, they tend to be pretty easy.
(The one I took 10+ years ago was absurdly easy.) There are also different
kinds of diplomas, depending on the courses taken.
