We have here where I live 3 free computer rags. Lately they have been
dealing with the issue of piracy. Basically what all 3 of the rags
claimed was that some software distributors like and actually encourage
piracy. The articles said some software distributors use piracy as a
means to get people to use and get addicted to their software (and I
thought the tabacco industry was bad ;).

I know that this piracy debate has raged for years here in this
newsgroup. I have seen in the past years people rant and rave about
piracy when they did not even own the software in question. I guess what
I'm trying to say is, if you own the software you have every right to
complain if someone pirates it. If you don't own the software you don't
have any right at all to complain if someone posts it on a newsgroup or
web site. Some of the software I've seen people cry about as being
pirated is so old that no one seems to know exactly who owns it! So if
you don't own the supposed pirated software and whoever owns it doesn't
care that it's being pirated why should you make all the fuss? Keep in
mind I'm not talking about the latest software that is available.
