Proterm woes

Hi,
I've downloaded the demo of Proterm 3.1 A2 and installed it on my
IIGS.  I believe I've got everything set up correctly with a null
modem on my PC COM2 to IIGS modem port.  Running telemate on PC side,
It has no problem going into terminal mode (type on both sides echoes
on other term), but whenever I send a file to the IIGS, it SEEMS to
download at the correct speed etc, but does not write to my HDD.  Any
ideas why?  Is that how the demo is crippled? Uploads to PC work
fine..
I've applied the IIGS modem port patch to proterm and even slowed down
the transfer speed (read somewhere that anything above 38400 might be
too fast but I doubt it).  All the protocols seem to work (kermit thru
Zmodem), it just frustrates me to find that it didn't actually
transfer.  Should I ditch the demo in favour of something else?  Is
there anything else that uses Zmodem on the A2 side that sells for
cheap or less?
