Re: Invasion of the collectors?

Well, I'm a collector, but I sure don't believe in the crazy prices. I am
giving away all the IIe's I got at a surplus sale. Sure I bought the
computers to resell, but unless the IIe's have fancy cards (which I tend to
keep) they are hardly worth shipping them to someone, so I just give them away
locally. I got them from a local elementary school, so I gave one to a
neighbor of mine who is a single mother, and I gave all of my grade school
software with it too. Also, the IIe was made in such huge quantities, and so
many are still in schools (I know, I've bought enough of them locally) that I
think prices for all but the really "good" cards will be very low. I love my
IIe, and to me it is worth more than any money I could get for it (first
computer I ever used, etc.) As a collector, CIS student, and used computer
salesmen, I run across a lot of computers. I don't think that *true*
collectors will hurt us. To me, a true collector is one who collects for fun,
not money. Sure, stuff like an IMSAI, Altiar, or Apple I will always be
pricey, but there is more than enough Apple II stuff to go around cheap.
Besides, if folks no you collect old Apple equipment, they might just recall
that "funny old Apple in the wooden case" up in their attic. Who wouldn't
like to find an Apple I like that?
