Lot a mice

Some might find this amusing:
The other night I wanted to take a few measurements of the 
insides of a 9 pin mouse. I know I have two different part 
numbers. About 6 months ago I took one of each apart to 
see what the difference was. I recall that one had a longer 
circuit board so I got out one of those and disassembled it. 
There I found a different circuit board that I�d never seen 
before.  So I went and got out another mouse with the same 
model # and take it apart,. Another circuit board!! I open 
another and it�s different too!! I open up another, now I 
have four totally different mice with the same model #!! 
I open number 5, finally I�ve got 2 mice that are the same.
Now  I�m looking at the mice with the other model # and 
wondering what I�ll find there. That was almost a letdown, 
out of the four I find 3 different mice but these are the 
same as 3 of the other model #. 
If you counted model numbers as a variation you might say I 
have 7 different mice in a group of 9. Realistically though 
I have four. But I�m left wondering why they used different 
model # at all? New inventory system?? (if you were to count 
different casing mouldings and plug styles then I don�t have 
any identical mice)
