I do have one (a so-called "Internet Edition" 33k6, which didn't have
the Internet software included because it was an international version -
doh!).  Mine only has a standard 8-pin serial connector, and a separate
wall wart for its power.

In any case, I should have mentioned this as a potential problem.

Assuming it is only using ADB to get power, and doesn't appear as an
active device on the bus, then I'd expect it to work.

Yes, that sounds likely.  Some GV modems implemented V.42bis (data
compression) inside the driver running on the Mac, rather than within
the modem.
