Absolutely correct. Some programs, like Copy II+, are designed
to use all available memory. Other programs, like BASIC, don't
know how to use more than 64k (remember, Applesoft was
created at the time of the 48k II+, so it is a pretty crippled BASIC
...the 128k models had better languages and the IIGS, which can
take up to 8MB and runs in 16-bits, has HyperCard and 16-bit
toolbox aware GSoft BASIC). For the programs that use all
memory, of course the RAM disk now no longer works. For
Applesoft, since BASIC can't use the extra 64k, why waste it?
ProDOS automatically sets up /RAM.

The female connector is for a memory expansion card. The
IIc runs a lot better with 1MB of memory (and yes, that memory
shows up under BASIC as a 964k RAM disk but programs that
use it as memory benefit a lot, like Copy II+ being able to
copy an 800k 3.5" floppy in ONE PASS).
