IIGS External Drives problem...Need Help!

My IIGS crashes everytime I put a 5.25 or 3.5 disk in the drive and attempt to
access it. Anyone have any solutions? The screen flashes twice and it makes
the boink sound, the mouse pointer will still move but you can't select
anything and must cold boot. Thanks in advance.
