I've only recently hooked up my Zip to the RamFAST (REV C). I have found no
problem with the drive spinning down. If it has spun down, I have found
that any request for disk activity (i.e. opening a folder) makes the drive
spin up again.
I also seem to remember that using the Zip utilities on the Mac (maybe PC
users can reply to this thread about PC equivalents), you can specify the
sleep time on the Zip, which programs the drive firmware apparently.
Perhaps extending the spin-down time may be the answer.
