ZIPs on Bernie (was: Why emulate?)

Bernie recognizes all disks that the Mac recognizes. Therefore if it is
HFS formatted, that is no problem. If you have PC-Exchange installed on
your Mac (so it can also handle ProDOS and MS-DOS disks), Bernie can
handle those formats as well.
Just drag the disk icon (on the Mac desktop) to Bernie's icon, or give
Command-Apple-O in Bernie and choose the disk.

To startup from a disk, (after it is made available to Bernie) just
reset the emulated computer by pressing Ctrl-Apple-backspace.
Note however that you can only boot from a ZIP disk if a real GS could
also boot from it. That is, the first partition should be the system
disk.

That's another question. I find disk images a lot handier than ZIP
disks, since I know I've always got them available on my harddisk, and
besides, they are also a lot faster.
Even a disk image on a ZIP disk is faster than a ZIP disk itself. I
don't know how Bernie does that, but it's a fact.
But to answer your question: no, you don't HAVE to make disk images. You
can use ZIP disks, floppies, CDs or partitions of your Mac harddisk.
In order to makie a disk image, start Bernie (don't mind if the emulated
GS cannot find a startup disk) and choose "New disk image" from the
menu. Make it a "harddrive image". That's basically all.
