Dealing with A2 Forum on Delphi

Per fair use quotes to relate matters
I present the following for all CSA2
readers to review.

The following post is made in 40 col.
for the benefit of Apple II users.

Concerning the very first and more than
likely the very last post I ever intend
making to the A2 forum on Delphi....

Per this copy - that follows, I present
for all to read and comment on my original
Delphi A2 forum post, followed by a reply
from Richard Bennett and my reply to him
concerning it all.

-----------------------------------------

Copy of my original post to the A2 Forum
on Delphi.....that seems to have started all of
this!

Concerning newly reclassified software
for the Apple II community, please be
advised I'm in the process now of
archiving as both ShrinkIt 5.25 disk
archives and emulator disk images the
following (formally commercial and now
freeware Apple II games and their
utility titles);

Star Crystal
Origins XI
Space
Space II
Traveller
Beastiary
Trader
Word Gen

These original disks were sent to me by
mail from Paul Sanders. Paul arranged
to have them reclassified as freeware
from the author/copyrght holder.

Paul is working on the text file
documentation for them now and will
send those on to me in the next few
days for inclusion in the archives and
disk images.

Willie Yeo should also be in contact
with Paul Sanders for the authorization
email concerning their
reclassification. I'm sure he will want
it before making this information
available from his web site. I already
have the email authorization on the
reclassification and will be including
it with the disk archives and emulator
disk images.

When this is finished, I'll be
uploading both archives and disk images
to the proper Apple II ftp sites for
their access and download.

Cheers,

Charles Turley

The reply to it from Richard Bennett
with my reply to him on it all follows.....

Richard you replied exactly as I
predicted you'd reply: "Firstly, don't
you think you should wait for Willie to
officially receive the authorisation
before announcing it as being
reclassified?"

I reply, No...Willie Yeo can do whatever
he likes with the titles by
'officially' stating that they are
reclassified or not stating such. What
Williw Yeo does or does not do is no
concern of mine with these efforts.

Willie Yeo has made it very clear to
all that he is not involved with any of
my reclassification efforts or
activities. Nor do I intend to wait in
anouncing my efforts with legally
reclassified Apple II software, until
Willie Yeo makes it 'Official' from his
web site and pages.

I received the original disks by US
Priority mail parcel from Paul Sanders
who was the person responsible for the
reclassification efforts with the
titles being reclassified from
commercial status to freeware status,
in the first place - along with a
reclassification notice and email copy
that they are freeware from the
copyright holder of the programs. That
email copy will be included with the
archives and disk images also.

I've made both ShrinkIt archives of them
all - as well as disk images for use
with REAL Apple II computers and for
use with Apple II emulators. I've also
received the complete and official
documentation for them all from Paul
Sanders, which he typed up as text
files from the originals for the
program titles and sent it to me by
email for inclusion with the freeware
release bundle.

If and when Willie Yeo has all of this -
as I have for my efforts with making
the freeware bundle releases, he
certainly is completely free to
acknowledge it as a legal freeware
release and reclassification or not -
when as as he elects to!

Richard I could care less what you think
I should do. I never have and most
likely I never will. I received them,
I archived them as noted above and I'm
releasing them in this bundle fashion,
legally with the author/copyright holders
consent and knowledge. I've made the
announcement as such on Delphi and on
CSA2 to that effect.

Richard Bennett goes on with:

"In the past, most things you seem to
release end up not be reclassified at
all, and usually still copyright."

And to this I reply: That's not an
accurate or correct statement at all
and you know it. Prove otherwise with
titles, facts and details to
substanciate your above claim.

Richard Bennett continues with:
"Until I hear otherwise, I will ignore
your post and treat it as rumour."

I reply: certainly that's entirely up to
you. I'd be shocked if you ever thought
otherwise. :)

Note - my original post has the > before
it's content following. Richard Bennett
goes on as noted in "Quote":

 "Secondly:"

> I'll be uploading both archives and
disk images to the proper Apple II ftp

"What are the "proper" sites? My guess
is the two main pirate sites, Asimov
and Ground. And why don't you leave the
uploading to Willie if he's the one
dealing with the reclassification?

Please do not post this sort of
hogwash again. Take it to csa2.

Richard."

I reply:
You certainly are free to call a site
however you care to call it. Your
classifications of a site however,
mean nothing to me.

I wasn't aware Willie Yeo had them to
upload or that he was involved in the
reclassification of the titles I'm
currently bundling for ShrinkIt archive
and disk image archive freeware
reclassification releases and uploads.
If he is - then let him do it. To the
best of my knowledge Wille Yeo doesn't
have the disks, the text documentation
for the disk titles nor has he the
archives of them as I've outlined I've
made above.

You can call it hogwash if you like.
I'll post what I consider valid and
useful information as I see fit, not as
yu see fit. I don't tell you what to
post - so don't tell me what to post.
As to taking it to CSA2, I've already
done just that. Perhaps You'd like to
go read it for yourself and make your
standard reply as you usualy do to CSA2
posts.

I might add that most all of your other
comments concerning me on your maintained
parody web site and to the public by
other public posts are inaccurate in 99% of
their content. At least you are consistant.

Cheers,
Tom

PS: Copy posted to CSA2 in the event this
reply doesn't make it to Delphi.

Adding to this another reply post I just
made to the A2 Delphi forum that follows:

----------------------------------------

Message 15187 Previous From: cturley
(CTURLEY) To: (RICHARD_B)
 8/18/98 6:20 PM Reply to:

Richard, You posted this: "As for my
post here to Mr Turley, he has
frequently posted that products such as
The Manager and Medley etc. have been
placed in the public domain by their
copyright owners, and is usually
wrong."

I reply again you are not being accurate
in your post content. I NEVER declared
either The Manager or Medley were
public domain.

I challenge you to prove otherwise!

Concerning Medley, I went to a great
deal of effort and personal expense to
have Medley legally reclassified as a
freeware and anybody within the Apple
II commmunity knows full well that I
did. Ask Wille Yeo all about it - he
knows. You oviously don't.

Concerning The Manager - never have I
stated that it was public domain. I did
state that 'The Manager v1.5 - French
version ' was a freeware and it is
(anywhere outside of North America and
Canada). Earl Childers corrected my
error on that, I acknowledged my error
and made the proper correction to that
mistake - end of story!

You, Mr. Bennett have no connection with
The Manager and as such it was not your
place to call me on it as you so rudely
did on CSA2. It was Seven Hills place
to call my error. They did, I made an
appoligy for that error with a public
post, corrected my error and that's
that!

--------------------------------------

Adding to this a public post from
Sheppy to the A2 Forum on Delphi, I just
received notice of that follows;

--------------------------------------

Tom, take this somewhere else. I left
comp.sys.apple2 because of nonsense
like the last two posts (from a wide
number of people). High in wordage, low
in real content, and generally
accusatory and defensive.

I think this message (mine) and the two
before it should both be deleted.

Eric "Sheppy" Shepherd

---------------------------------------

I told Sheppy that's exactly what I'd
do. I'm taking it here to CSA2. So here
it is.

I trust the CSA2 readers can digest all
this with some sort of logical
following.

----------------------------------------

For what it's worth...here's another
valuable and very useful A2 Forum on
Delphi - a posted jewel from Sheppy for all
CSA2 readers to ponder over!

----------------------------------------

re energy to keep producing...

For the first time ever, I'll publicly
state Sheppy's First Theory of
Productivity:

P = (t*I*E)/(f^2)

P: Production rate (time/item done)
t: Time available for work (time)
I: Personal interest
E: Public enthusiasm (measured in items;
   actually # of positive comments
   received)
f: Flames received (measured in items)

This formula states that while time,
personal interest, and public
enthusiasm cause a linear increase in
the amount of work done, negative input
and flames cause a decrease in work
accomplished by the inverse square
rule.

Eric "Sheppy" Shepherd

--------------------------------------

In a A2 Forum on Delphi chat room
discussion I had with Sheppy a few days
ago concerning what he plans to do with
any updates for Wolf 3D for the IIgs, I
politely asked him: "what updates do you have
planned for Wolf 3D for the IIgs."

He replied and stated clearly in so
many words to this effect...'I plan to
do nothing more with the program,
because of comments about it posted to
CSA2, that I didn't like.'

--------------------------------------

Having to post this to CSA2 for all of
you to read and comment on may seem to
you to be of little value. I consider
it of great value to show the rudeness
and character I alway encounter on the
A2 Forum on Delphi. I've had serious
discussions with many others that are
regular posters to CSA2 and who often
visit the A2 Forum on Delphi about the
nature of content, comments and such we
are subjected to on the A2 Forum on
Delphi by other members there such as
Richard Bennett. I see no need or value
to ever make a post to the A2 Forum on
Delphi again. They express clearly that
they consider this newsgroup to be of
no value to the real needs of the Apple
II community or its developers.

I DO consider it to be of great value to
the real needs of the Apple II
community or its developers.

So this is where I'll make all my posts
of information with Apple II related
matters from now on. But, certainly not
on the A2 forum of Delphi. I DO NOT
want to start any sort of flamewar here
or on Delphi, nor will I become
involved in such. I strongy suggest
nobody else start a flamewar here or on
Delphi either! I simply wanted the
readers of this newsgroup to be made
aware of what they can expect if they
decide to visit the A2 Forum on Delphi
to express there side of anything.

Cheers,
Tom
