    Well the Apple III Plus supported an interlaced graphic mode, which
was made activate with a user flippable switch in the side of the case.
The interlace mode doubled the vertical resolution, so you could get
modes like 240x384 and 560x384 (the latter is higher than a B&W Mac!).

    I'm only guessing here, but what you have sounds like an upgrade to
add the same graphic interlace feature to the standard Apple III.
