Like Steve Sanders, we used a hole punch for years. Finally, we got
one of the diskette notchers-- much better. As you suggest, the notchers
are not as common as they used to be. Some office supply places may have
them.

Yes; this was a fairly popular mod back in the 80's. Steve Buggie's
famous "Bugg Drives" include a switch which lets you turn OFF Write
Protect detection.
