Open the HD's case, reseat all cables, particularly power. Also,
dust out the case (if appropriate.) If you're lucky, the internal
cables just worked their way loose over time, and a bit of trivial
maintenance will fix it. If you're less lucky, the HD mechanism is
starting to fail, and now would be a VERY good time to invest in a
backup system if you haven't done so already.
