Re: Asimov performs a valuable service; so why fight over it?

During the heyday of the post-Apple Apple II market, software companies
spent most of their time on the pay services. Even then, usenet was seen
as the dumping ground for everyone who wasn't serious enough about their
Apple to pay an online service.
And people here tended to be less understanding of the company reps, who
naturally didn't stay long once they concluded that their time was
better spent on people who at least paid by the minute to complain about
products.
There were a few company reps here, but not nearly as many as on GEnie
or Compu$serve or Delphi. If you bothered to check out the pay services
you would find that people are still getting on-line support over there.
Absence of company reps from this newsgroup says absolutely nothing
about their "interest" in Apple II products.

The above does not place most "company reps" in a very good light.
You appear to be saying that these reps prefer to hang out on some
on-line service and avoid the mass of users because there, at least,
everyone pats them on the nose.
You say that their absence from Csa2 says nothing about their
interest in Apple II products. That may be. The question is: Do these
guys want to _sell_ any Apple II products? Or, is the whole idea of
selling just too much bother?
You mention user complaints. When you sell software to a user, he
or she is handing you $$$. Part of the deal is that you are supposed to
handle questions and complaints. If this presents terrible problems for
you, you may be in the wrong business.

But it does say a lot about the character of this particular newsgroup,
and how it hasn't gotten much better in the last five years.

What is it about "the character of this particular newsgroup" which
you find objectionable?
