Actually, Tulip Computers BV owns the rights and the Commodore service mark
(recently confirmed by Gateway; check out www.commodore.net). There's at
least some passing interest in reviving the 64 but nothing they're willing
to commit to officially.
The Atari is owned by JTS Technologies. All they were after is the Jaguar line
of video consoles. Probably with some persuasion they'd think about licensing
the 8-bits (but it would be a lot of persuasion and hence a lot of royalties).
I agree that Laser is probably the best bet if someone wanted to bring back
the ][ in some form.
