I'd use Chinook SCSI Utilities if I wanted to use an Apple II app. It does
low level formatting with selectable interleave and can lock out bad blocks
at the hardware level too. 

BTW I've never heard of anyone getting ADU to install a compatible driver
in the APPLE_DRIVER partition.
