     What SCSI interface are you using?  I don't think the Ramfast has
this problem (could be wrong).  Now I don't have this problem with my 
Apple High Speed SCSI and Zip but I think that my success comes from 
using the Tulin SCSI drivers.  The problem, I think, is that the 
SCSI.Manager and driver from Apple does not deal well with removable 
drives.  With the Tulin drivers installed, the Zip drive is "pinged" 
before access I guess. The Tulin drivers were originally created for
the Tulin floptical drives but work as well with the Zip drive.

You might see if anyone has Tulin drivers they would be willing to
part with.
