Yes, I've used both methods many times with no problems. When I first
got my ][e in 1983, it came with a green screen monitor (Monitor II).
Whenever I wanted to do something in colour, I'd take my ][e to the
living room and plug it into the video in on either the Beta or VHS
and use the TV as a colour display.

I did this until my parents bought me a Commodore 1702 colour monitor
one Christmas.

I've also used my IIgs with an RF modulator. While doing security
work about four years ago, I wanted to take my IIgs to work on the
weekend so that I'd have something to do. :-) I took my IIgs, mouse,
keyboard, 3.5" drive, an RF modulator and a 5" b&w TV. The picture
was surprisingly good and I was able to use the Finder with it but
mostly just played games.

Now if only the Focus and MicroDrive cards had existed back then, I
could have really enjoyed myself and possibly done some productive
work at the same time.
