Which is why we have RGB Monitors in the first place. Call me behind in
technology when I am using an Apple IIgs as opposed to a Power Mac or PC,
but dont insult my electronic intelligence by saying adding chroma
demodulation where none is used now is better than RGB video!
Anyone with half a electronic brain knows that adding anything in the
signal path of an electronic signal will degrade that signal.
This is not a putdown of the Electronic Turtle per se, just its
advertising which is very misleading in my book. The product may perform
admirably and may even look better than what we presently are using do to
the age factor and the use/abuse we subject it to.
All monitors/TV's have a crud area in the 3.2 to 4.2 MHz range when using
standard NTSC chroma demodulation (diff freq area for PAL and SECAM)
where chroma information interferes with luminance information. Comb
filters and other hi-tech sounding items help the interference problem
but in the final analysis, the interference is still there.
RGB video does NOT have this problem because there is no demodulation
taking place so no intereference because from the start you have
separated red video, green videoand blue video and the signal doesnt get
any clearer than that.
Also NTSC RGB video monitors are still availiable brand new with hi-tech
picture tube dot-pitch, etc all the way to 33" size. And for the record,
16/9 aspect ratio monitors are availiable today also as they are making
their way into the commercial video game market.
By the way, I DO NOT sell monitors for a living, however I do fix them
for a living.
