sherwood forest

Hello,  I've just recently discovered an emulator for the apple ][
and am busy catching up on all the games Inever managed to complete as a
wee lad.
   Presently sherwood forest has me stumped, though I've managed to get
one step further, much to my delight.
   I'm in a passageway, I've got all the bits and pieces, there is a
hole in the roof above me, and I can't reach it.  I've trudged back and
forth all over the game looking for the next step.  Can anyone give me a
wee hint to nudge me on my way?
