Problem:  I believe the original poster mentioned the word "DuoDisk". 
Without some hardware-hacking, switching drives in a DuoDisk is a
non-trivial exercise.  This is one of the reasons I don't much care for
the DuoDisk.

A self-test is going to respond with either "KERNEL OK" or "System OK"
(depending on whether the machine is enhanced or not), I'm almost willing
to bet.
