Whether I from the partition or another system disk, after I rename the
partition and reboot I get a [text screen] message asking me to insert
volume xxx, where xxx is the previous name of my partition. Is there
some trick I should know about?

Evidently, the system is looking for some file using a pathname
which includes the old volume name.

For example, if you have your startup program (set via the SetStart
control panel) set to some program other than FINDER, the system will
get the full pathname of the program from the SetStart.data file in the
boot volume SYSTEM folder. The pathname will include the old volume name
and, so, the system will try to find the program and fail.

If the aove sounds like it may fit your situation, try
booting ProDOS from diskette and delete SetStart.data from your usual
boot volume's SYSTEM folder.

You can always try scrapping Desktop in the ICONS folder. This
sometimes cures problems related to finding files.

Another possibility is that some Init file(s) in
SYSTEM/SYSTEM.STARTUP includes references to files which are accessed
during startup and that the references include the old volume name. For
example, some launcher Init may need to be scrapped and re-installed.
