For an intersting story about the relative ease of setup for Mac vs Wintel
machine check out this URL:
http://www.avaloncity.com/MacToday/MacJack/Factpg.html
Basically, the Software Publishers Association wanted to conduct a public
contest as to which platform was easier to setup and use. They were going
to have one team for the Wintel side and one MacOS side. Microsoft did not
wish to participate so the Wintel side was represented by the Senior
Technical editor from Windows Sources magazine and his assistant, i.e. two
_very_ experienced users. Guy Kawasaki at Apple was put in charge of
selecting their team. He selected a single 10 year old (knowledgable Mac
user) to represent MacOS/Apple.
The test involved setting up a computer out of the box, attaching a modem,
printer and Zip drive, then configuring access to an online service and
getting onto the web. As I'm sure most of you have figured out by now, the
10 year old did this in half the time of the Wintel techies.
I had to laugh.
