I guess it's time I reply to this thread. First of all, Delphi is _not_
the only place to get StolenBASE. Shareware Solutions II and Juiced.GS
will be distributing it also, for a minimal fee. My reason for this way of
distribution is simply this: Becoming a member of Delphi is extremely
cheap (under $40), as is subscribing to SSII or Juiced.GS. The money will
help keep the Apple II alive a little longer. If you can't afford one of
these, you're in really bad shape.
Also, in case nobody has noticed, there are several other base64
decoder/encoders for the IIgs. StolenBASE is most likely the fastest and
most user-friendly of the bunch, but others may very well be more powerful.
StolenBASE handles base64 encoding, and does it well, IMO, but it is _not_
the only one. As a matter of fact, if you'll settle for a GS/OS shell
application, I'll email you a copy of a base64 decoder I ported a while
back. It's limited, but does the job. The point is that if you _really_
can't afford to support the Apple II and _must have_ a base64 decoder, you
can still get one without resorting to a PC.
I think it makes perfect sense to limit distribution of my programs to
people who support the Apple II. _My_ time and money were put into the
development of StolenBASE, and I will never make a penny from it. If I
prefer to only deal with people who are trying to keep the Apple II alive,
I think that's reasonable.
Sorry if I'm a little harsh, but I feel strongly about this. Don't waste
your time flaming me.
