Probably more than you wanna pay new. I got a Fastpath 4 used for $75 last
fall, and Matt got a 5 for $125 I believe. Shiva stuff ain't cheap. As for
what you can do with it, I only use mine to route Appletalk between two
Macs on ethernet and three printers, a Powerbook, and a IIgs on localtalk.
But you can route TCP and some other protocols with it too. I would expect
that it would be better to have a Mac on the network, since the only config
software I know of for FP's is MacOS based.
