Hi Marvin,
I'm not running a statistic on people who registered our emulator, but I'm
pretty sure (from what they wrote me) that the vast majority of Apple IIgs
emulator users has sold their Apple II a long time ago and is using the
emulator now for pure nostalgia reasons.
I agree with you that piracy becomes more and more of an issue because a) these
users have already converted to a different platform and b) do not particularly
care about a healthy Apple II market. I think all emulator authors should
include a ReadMe about legal issues and where to obtain shrink-wrapped
software.
Personally, I don't think the Apple II market does substantially suffer from
emulator users who are pirating software because - IMO - these users would not
mess with Apple II software at all if it would require a physical Apple II.
nevertheless, piracy is piracy and we should do everything possible to prevent
this phenomena. I believe that if we convince some emulator users to buy new
software, then we have actually brought new customers to the few remaining
developers and - won.
So, in this sense, I invite everyone who's selling commercial software to
send me a short list of their products along with a (short!) description of
each, plus shipping policies etc. I will add this information to our web pages
and to the documentation of "Bernie ][".
