The best, most flak-free way to move stuff between Apple and PC is
NULL modem.

The IIe needs a serial card and modem cable. A very good, low cost
program for the Apple IIe is Modem MGR. It is $49.95 from MGR Software.
(The most recent number I have is 714-993-0294.)

A good NULL modemming program for PC is Telemate. It runs under DOS
and is commonly available as shareware.

The NULL modem connector can be found at Radio Shack for a few
dollars.

To do transfers, you just connect the modem cable from each
machine to the NULL modem connector, set the same baud rate on each
program, place each program in terminal mode, and select the function
(send or receive). Usually, it is best to start Receive on the PC before
starting the Send on the Apple.

You mention using "serial Apple Writer". If your IIe has a standard
serial output going to a printer, you may be able to "print" to Telemate
(or whatever) on the PC with the PC telecom program set to Receive text.
(You may have to terminate the Receive via pressing ESC on the PC.) I
have not tried this with an Apple II/PC connection.

Of course, if your IIe has a standard serial output, you could
connect a modem and use any of several Apple II telecom programs to
upload your text to a BBS, perhaps your own company BBS, which does not
mind. Then, you could download it to your PC.

Another option is to save your stuff as plain Text on an Apple II
diskette and ask an Apple II user who also uses a PC to move the Text to
PC. Check the phone book for the number of a local Apple II or Mac user
group-- some A2 groups have merged into Mac groups. Many Apple2/PC users
will have experience with transfers and have no difficulty getting the
job done.
