Actually the CONTROL-OPEN APPLE-OPTION-RESET routine resets the RAM disk, 
/RAM5 to whatever you have set in the control panel, trashing out 
anything you left there in the process.

The way to reset the BRAM to defaults is:

If the computer is OFF, hold down the OPTION key while you turn it on.

If the computer is already ON, press OPTION-CONTROL-RESET or 
OPTION-CONTROL-ESC.  The first restarts the computer so you will lose 
whatever you are working on.  The second _should_ allow you to return to 
a running application.  The problem is that some programs or DAs or 
whatever use that same key combination for their own purposes.

In either case you'll get a little seen menu allowing you to go directly 
to the control panel (resetting the defaults), setting the hertz of your 
power supply (what your house is wired for), or continue restarting the 
program.  You want item 1.
