this is a stab in the dark, but why don't you try re-installing the 3.5
inch drivers from your system disks. I think there are two of them,
although I've only got one installed myself, one for the MAC compatible
"dumb" drives and one for the older IIe compatible "smart" drives. (By
the way, if you have a choice, take the "dumb" drives for your IIgs.
Among other things they're faster because they let the IIgs firmware do
all their thinking for them.)
