   Correct, the GS ROM 00/01 motherboard only has a needed signal for
the VOC and SS to slot 3, thanks to some less-than-inspired design
decisions out of Apple. Apparently, you can run a wire from the right
pin on slot 3 over to that pin of another slot to get both a SS and
VOC running in that kind of setup, but I don't know which pin offhand.

   I've never tried my VOC in some other slot of my ROM 01 to see if
it can still be controlled, but if the signal is needed, the VOC may
continually try and swap between GS video modes, which would not be
happy.

   Apple got a little less braindead in the design of the ROM 3 (where
you can use slots 1-6 if I remember correctly), but motherboard swaps
can either be unavailable or not desired sometimes.
