: find at these ftp sites. How do I know what to download?

Quickstart to FTP:
1) The hard way:
Type ftp <hostname>, for example ftp apple2.caltech.edu
You will be prompted for a login name. Type anonymous
You will be prompted for your e-mail adress
Now you are in the host systems directory tree
cd <directoryname> allows you to go down one level, cd .. goes up
When you have found a file which looks interesting,
type 'binary' (not necessary for text files), then
'get <filename>' The file will be transferred to your machine.
When you want to leave ftp type exit

Other useful cmds are 'hash' (download meter), mget (multiple get,
mget A* get all files beginning with A) and prompt (y/n prompt toggle)

2) The easy way
Get the PD program 'Fetch' for your Mac. Does the same like ftp,
but it's all point and click. If you send me an e-mail, I'll
e-mail it to you (if you have an uudecoder on your Mac).

  We could
: really use a word processor, educational games and a typing tutor
: program, but I don't know where to begin downloading. It seems that
: there are some standard decompression programs, but I can't seem to find
: them either. Will unstuff-it help me in this new endeavor?

Quickstart to Archives:
You will encounter mainly .shk and .bsc files. For .shk files, you'll
need an utility called ShinkitGS (GSHK). I invite you to type
ftp ftp.uni-kl.de and download GSHK.sea from there. It's a self-
extracting archive. Run it on the gs and you have Shrinkit. Use it to
decode GSCII.shk. Use both programs to decode the rest.

Good ftp sites:
ground.isca.uiowa.edu
apple2.caltech.edu
ftp.uni-kl.de
ghostwheel.ausom.net.au

Good word processors: Coolwriter,WriteAway,Shadowwrite,Hermes

  What about
: AppleWorks? Is there any way to get it on-line?

I think it's still copyrighted by Claris, so you won't find it in
the Net (at least not legally). Charlies AppleSeeds may still sell
a copy.

   I have un-earthed
: some DD-DS disks from my college days, so if I could find somthing I
: could copy it to an appropriate disk.

Have fun! BTW, if you install System 6.0.1 on your gs, you can use
HFS disks on your gs (very nice). Visit an user group and get a copy.
