Riddle me this then. How do you suppose the system can tell when you've put a
3.5 disk in the drive? As you should know, you have to tell the system when
you put in a 5.25 disk. Why is this when the system knows you've put in a
3.5? It's because the system polls the 3.5 constantly. This of course is
not possible with 5.25s.

This is the bottom line: any finder type program, be it the IIgs finder,
Catalyst, Mouse Desk, Apple II Desktop, or any other you can name necessarily
polls 3.5s constantly. Go into a non finder app, like Appleworks, Shrinkit,
BASIC, whatever, and it stops. If yours didn't, you have something wrong
with your system.
