I suspect you're using 'more recent versions' to refer to what the
rest of us (including Apple) call GS/OS. [They identify themselves on
bootup (hit space at the start of boot for info on the GS/OS version,
etc)] GS/OS was done in nice 16 bit code (though that maze of twisty
subroutines, all alike in bank 0 is a real rats nest), and is not
a 'version' of ProDOS 8 or 16.
