Are you curious to know what Richard Bennett (author of GraphicWriter III
and Express) thinks of Charles Turley?
This is an extract taken from Richard's anti-Turley home page:
http://www.ozemail.com.au/~kashum/turkey.html
"There's been a lot of talk about this site on comp.sys.apple2, with
opinions varying from hysterically funny and about time Dr. Tom got
what he deserves, through to rude, callous, and not worthy of
Dr. Tom's "great" standing in the Apple II community.
We should also add that those in support of Dr. Tom have either been
newer users, or notable Apple II people from the past. No current
Apple II notables, have aired opinions supporting Dr. Tom, in fact the
contrary is the case.
Notable Apple II people from the past, who really should know better,
have posted either in support of Dr. Tom, or have simply called for a
stop to the flame fest. Well, no offence to these "notable" people, but
they have either forgotten the past, or never knew of it to begin
with, as we shall explain.
Now, in the mid-1990's, more and more people are getting on to the
Internet instead of their local BBS or online service, and as such, no
longer are newsgroups such as comp.sys.apple2 home to only UNIX
heads and pirates. Dropping this "flame fest" will simply restore
comp.sys.apple2 to what it was previously, Turley posting his usual
garbage posts deceiving users, and depriving the few remaining Apple II
developers of any sort of income or incentive to even continue, only
this time there is one difference. Now we have more new users than ever
before, completely unfamiliar with Turley'sactions.
This is a man whose own home page and public postings declare himself
a celestial being... a man who has publicly posted that he sold pirated
software up until 1993, while at the same time drawing a disability
pension from YOUR tax dollars, coincidentally when the Apple II
market went belly up... a man who still continually lies behind the
scenes to Apple II publishers and developers, which general users would
be unaware of... a man who sends vehement private email, yet praises
the same in public forums. The list is endless...There are ex-Apple II
developers, as we speak, actually hiding from this man, in fear of
reprisals. And you think Dr. Tom has it bad!
You may debate it until the cows come home, but let's face it,
excluding Apple Computer Inc., piracy killed the Apple II. Isn't it
about time we banished the big time pirates forever? Isn't it about
time we exorcised our community of these scum? This site may be
offensive, it may be humorous, it may be uncalled for, but above all it
is the truth.
Ask any of the remaining Apple II software publishers. Ask any of the
remaining Apple II software developers. Ask them about Turley.
Ask anyone where Turley has been banned, on Genie, Delphi, CompuServe,
local BBS' and user groups. Ask anyone who doesn't read
comp.sys.apple2. Ask them if they have the same problems as
comp.sys.apple2.
comp.sys.apple2 is the last place Turley can post his verbal diarrhoea
without being censored, proven wrong, or simply banned. There are other
homes for Apple II enthusiasts, away from Usenet, which are unspoiled
by Turley's rants, where users do stand as a united front. (Try Genie
or Delphi as only the tip of the iceberg.)"
