Re: Hard Disk Boot Problems
Thanks for help so far and sorry that I didn't supply all info. I should
have thought a bit more about my post first.
SCSI is Apple High Speed SCSI the latest ROM version ("D" I think). Assembled
in Australia it says on the card, imagine that!
Syquest is 44MB removeable and has always and still does work fine. System
is 6.0. Apple 2 is Rom 1. I've also just purchased a brand new in box Rom 3
GS, but haven't powered it up yet. I had to solder up my own Apple SCSI
standard DB 25 to IDE style 50 pin HD cable, it was a pain but it seems to
work fine. The power supply is from an old applied ingenuity innerdrive
system (the drive died years ago). The hard disk is a 540MB SCSI drive
manufactured by IBM (I love the irony of putting one of their drives in a
GS). As I have said the internal drive works fine when the syquest is the
boot drive can copy and launch programs datafiles etc. but I can't boot it.
I have tried all SCSI id's from 2 to 6, (why didn't I try 1? - frustration
set-in at that stage) for the Sysquest and the internal scsi.
Further, if I try and boot the internal SCSI by itself, it is not recognised
as a drive and I have to boot from a 3.5 inch floppy. If I try and boot off
the internal SCSI with the Syquest media ejected but with the drive on, then
the internal SCSI is still not recognised. This should eliminate the
potential problem of no scsi terminator supplied power from the internal
drive, I think.
I have tested the internal HD and all sectors and blocks come up as being
fine.
I read the FAQ prior to any of my postings, had to go through a few old
altavista generated links before I found the latest one. It's a great read
and a very worthwhile document. Thanks to all who maintain it.
I get the feeling I'm forgetting something really simple that is causing me
probs - but maybe not. What does a boot drive need when multi-partitioned (4
prodos and 1 HFS)? Anything like that likely to cause me probs?
Thanks again for all help.
Mike
