hard disk boot problems

I have just installed a SCSI hard disk in my GS and am having a few problems.
I already had a syquest removeable hard drive and it works fine.

I have hooked up an internal 540 MB scsi drive into an old Applied Ingenuity
power supply/internal drive box.

I have formatted and partitioned as 4 x 32MB prodos and 1 x 380 (odd) MB HFS
partitions. I have loaded system 6.0 software onto partition zero and I can
happily copy files and programs backwards and forwards and run software from
the drive, using the syquest as the system disk.

However, if I shutdown/turn-off and change SCSI IDs so that the new internal
drive has ID 6 and the Syquest has ID 5 - the new internal is not recognised
as a system disk, the system starts to boot off the syquest and sometimes
succeeds but sometimes crashes. A reboot fairs no better. If I return to
the Syquest as ID 6 everything works fine and the all partitions are viewable
and useable.

I've reloaded system software a number of times but always come up with the
same problem. Am I forgetting something simple? (It's been 2 years since
I've used the GS - but I keen to get movin' again.) Or have I got a
serious problem?

All help greatly appreciated.

Mike
