Tip: my account ('nathan') at visi.com is purely a shell account.
I telnet in from work or my pentium box at home, and read news thru
it. The newsprogram I use, trn, is _quite_ capable of reading lots of
newsgroups; it notes that I'm currently subscribed to 20. (trn also
has lots of features that make it one of the best newsreaders around,
graphical or not.)

The 2qwk! crowd has also weighed in, saying that they can read lots
of newsgroups without any problems. Thus, anyone with a shell or 2qwk
type connection can read lots of groups without any problems.
