Try these two things: (1) Connect the appletalk connectors to the modem port of the IIgs (unlike the Mac, which MUST use the printer port for AppleTalk, the IIgs can use either port). Ensure the Control Panels setting is set appropriately. (2) Try connecting a non-AppleTalk printer or modem to the printer port. Does it still hang on boot?
