    Using software to toggle ZipGS settings are only temporary, as
soon as you power down the IIgs they are lost. The board gets it's 
default settings from two banks of DIP switches, which are read when 
you first turn on your system.

    The second bank (SW2) controls whether a slot is set to 'fast'
or 'slow'. Switches 1 through 7 that is, the eighth switch is used
for setting the speaker. ON = Fast, OFF = Slow, for SW2-1 through SW2-7.

The default settings are:

SW2 

1 ON   (slot 1) - fast
2 OFF  (slot 2) - SLOW
3 ON   (slot 3) - fast
4 ON   (slot 4) - fast
5 ON   (slot 5) - fast
6 OFF  (slot 6) - SLOW
7 ON   (slot 7) - fast

I should mention SW1-3, since it is for AppleTalk Delay (default is 'ON').
I don't recall it's function, though I _think_ you toggle it if your booting
a IIgs over an AppleTalk network (this is in the other bank of switches).

Speaking of setting slots to fast/slow, what speed should a slot be set
to if an Apple II 3.5 Controller Card (SuperDrive controller) is installed?
I have mine installed in Slot-6, which is currently set to 'Slow'.
