For an 8-bit Apple IIe, really, the main reason for lots of RAM is to
do some real work with AppleWorks and TimeOut programs. And as it
happens, AppleWorks 3.0 and higher user either type of RAM card and
they are both about the same operational speed. AppleWorks was a
formidable office software package for the day when running in an
Apple IIe with lots of RAM
Other than having a huge bootable ramdisk (which i really enjoyed, but
my IIe was left on for months at a time), the other real benefit I
experienced with a large ram card in slot 7 was that the scrollback
buffer of ProTerm was very large.
Otherwise, if all you're really doing is playing games from floppies,
then all that extra ram isn't really used all that much.
