That doesn't make sense.  I assume the Chinook is last on the chain,
so your computer is set up as follows.

IIc (internal 5.25) --- UniDisk 3.5 --- Chinook (80 MB, three partitions)

The IIc SmartPort firmware allocates unit numbers for each device in
order: the UniDisk 3.5 will be unit 1 and the Chinook will be units 2,
3 and 4.  With ProDOS-8 1.2 through 1.9, they should map to:

S5,D1   UniDisk 3.5
S5,D2   Chinook first partition
S2,D1   Chinook second partition
S2,D2   Chinook third partition

The IIc SmartPort firmware DOES support this standard unit number
remapping (I just looked at the listing).  In any case, you could use
ProDOS-8 2.0.1 or later, which uses the SmartPort driver for units
after the first two, so it can support more than four SmartPort
volumes.

I don't know how you could start from the Chinook at all, unless you
physically swapped the drives so that the Chinook was connected first
(in which case, the above list would just rotate up one line, with the
UniDisk going to S2,D2; you wouldn't be able to boot from the 3.5"
drive in this configuration).

The SmartPort doesn't allow booting from any device other than the
first one.

The internal 5.25" drive is completely separate - it is always S6,D1.
An external 5.25" drive is always S6,D2 (and it must be last in the
drive chain).


If you can provide more details, I might be able to narrow down the
problem.  Tell me exactly how the drives are physically connected,
which version of ProDOS you are using, how the drives are being mapped
in each situation, and exactly what you mean by "booting from floppy"
(which floppy - 3.5" or 5.25"?)
