To keep answering this person is only tending to fuel HIS fire. He will
never be convinced that the important thing is having a computer to use
and have it to do everything that you require it to do. He is the kind of
guy who will always have (or at least thinks he has to) the biggest
fastest best of everything. He will never be able to understand that some
people can use some of the simplest thing to do the most complicated
things, because they want to or have to.
I'd personally be surprised if this person is capable of doing anything
that doesn't use a computer, as his whole life seems to be centered around
his computer. He obviously has way too much spare time on his hands. He
can not think about turning his energy into something constructive, like
volunteering his spare time where it might be needed. He'd rather spend
his time getting his jollys taunting others. He is not capable of arguing
the facts of much of anything. All that matters is HIS opinion. When it
looks like he can't get someone's goat that way, he turns to personal
insults. I'm sure he'll come back with a good one for me. But, I can
accept the fact that people like him are out there in the real world. I
see them everyday.
The sad part about all this is this:
We have tended to become obsessed with whether our computers are better
than others. We accept the advertising hype that we need the latest and
greatest computer and software, even though surveys have shown that 90% of
all computer users will never use 95% of their computer's capability. I
find it difficult to update to a new processor or software package, unless
it has proven increased stability or features I need. Why buy an 18
wheeler to the corner carry-out, for a quart of milk, if you have own an
Escort?
I have been involved with computers for over 15 years now. I've seen
pentiums used for some pretty dumb things (a small index card file is much
cheaper and smaller for keeping recipes) and some pretty simple processors
used for some pretty impressive jobs (a Z80 processor running CNC
machinery and the like). It's a matter of the programmer being able to
make it all work. The most powerful computer will not do any good unless
you have a usable system to run it and programs to utilize the power. I
might be wrong, but I've found those who preach about the limits of other
systems, have only used the one they are soapboxing about. I personally
have been involved with five different computer systems, in my lifetime.
All had their weak points, but all had many more good points which made
them usable.
But, I digress. For most of us, the Apple II is not only a matter of
choice, but it meets our needs so well, we do not need to go to the next
step. We are having fun using what we know and are comfortable with. Some
of us can not afford to financially to go to the next step. We are busy
raising kids, helping out our communities, paying taxes, getting through
college, or taking care of ill loved ones with our money and needed time.
We see the computer as a stress reliever, helper, and/or mind expander,
not an item for competition or reason to get up in the morning. To
"Whatever His/Her Name Is", I am glad you have time and energy to devote
to this argument. I feel sorry that life is passing you by and you don't
even know it. Meanwhile, the rest of are laughing at you, because you'll
probably never get the real reason for life nor really have a life.
BTW, had I known the address of the sender, I would have E-Mailed this to
them. But, unlike the elusive "Endless Mike", the name and address, that
is proudly posted at the end, is mine, he'll be able to reach me anytime.
I am confident enough to not have to sneak around and post under different
names. He never will.
I thank you for reading this posting, if you where able to bear on long enough.
