I recieved it about two years ago, give or take several months.
I bought the origional at a Pheonix Apple Users Group meeting, when it
was demoed. And at they sent info on the update, which I ordered and
recieved within a couple of weeks.

I have yet to use the upgrade. When I bought the initial version, I
didn't have a scanner. I bought one used about 6 months later, and used
InWords 1.0 with it. Since I recieved the update, there hasn't been anything
I've needed to scan. I don't even have the scanner installed, and haven't
for about two years.

There should be NO reason why they haven't shipped a copy to you. Even if
they have to take the time to duplicate a disk to send to you. 'Course,
they might have run out of professionally printed documentation, and are
waiting for enough update requests to make it worth printing another set.
