[Detailed hardware and firmware differences removed]
Just an addendum to your list, these are some hardware changes to
the ROM 3 motherboard which you inadvertently forgot:
- Lithium battery (used to store settings for Control Panel and clock)
moved just below powersupply connector and adjancent to slot 1
(location B1 on motherboard). Removable, unlike ROM 01 where battery
is soldered in place.
- Connector present at location S1 (inbetween 'Fast RAM' and SCC) which
disables access to built-in Control Panel if jumper is added. The
"Control Panel" option will disappear from the CDA menu, a feature
added to prevent younger children from tampering with settings. Does
not affect System 5 and 6's NDA graphical control panel.
- {Although trival to end-user} Ensoniq 5503 Digital Oscillator Chip (DOC)
and Video Graphic Controller (VGC) soldered to motherboard. General
purpose slots (1 through 7) not labeled, where as motherboard silked laced
"1", "2", "3", etc on the ROM 01 and all previous Apple II models (minus
IIc and IIc+ which are slotless).
I've also noticed depressing the 'SHIFT' key along with the usual
Apple-Control-Esc (ie, Apple-Shift-Control-Esc) often forces entry into the
text Control Panel on the ROM 3. Sometimes this has strange side effects
though, like a lockup or crash when you try to return to your application. :)
