the ram card fully populated to 1 meg will certainly get you started.

hold the <control>, <option> and <apple> keys, then press and release 
<reset> (then release 'em all) to run the system test. wait for it to 
finish. note however that this does not test the ram card memory. there 
must be some sort of utility out there to test ram cards.

i believe the apple ftp site has GS/OS disk images archived in a 
macintosh format (among others) although i may be wrong. if so, then the 
macs you have access to can generate the disks. keep in mind that these 
are 800k disks, not high desity ones.

prodos and gsos will be what you'll be using most.
