Not that I know of from the sources of the programs that use it. Star
Command GS, Virtual Sprite Compiler, GNO Snooper II, and gzip all use
kernStatus() to detect GNO and install signal handlers (SCm and VSC only)
if GNO is present.
Here's the code frag from SCm:
pha
_kernStatus
pla
beq noSig ; don't install if GNO/ME not running
Here's the code frag from Virtual Shape Compiler:
if(GNOActive = kernStatus())
installSigHandlers();
Same code frag for gzip:
** The stack result for the 3 above is non-zero if GNO is present.
Here's the code frag from GNO Snooper II:
kernStatus()
if(toolerror())
{ printf("GNO is not active.\n");
goto exit;
}
** The system would tell if you a certain tool wasn't responding to its
status calls.
The only possible problems that I can think of you might have to validate
linking two separate programs is if there's some stdio difference that
makes output between the two shells operate differently.
