lost mouse clicks

this may go in the questions from idiots category but here goes:

why does my zip gs (9Mhz/64k) cause mouse button events to be lost and 
more importantly, how do i remedy the problem?
lost mouse clicks started when i installed the card, and go away when i 
disable it. i've tried various slot settings, but no change. the computer 
often misses mouse down events, and sometimes mouse up events.
